The International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted the

International Code for the Application of Fire Test Procedures, 2010

(2010 FTP Code) and amendments to SOLAS regulation II-2/3.23


THE REVISED CODE
The amended Code which has been adopted through MSC.307(88) on December 3rd, 2010 includes the following changes:
 All relevant resolutions and circulars on fire test procedures have been added in the Code.
 Part 5 regarding the test for surface flammability (test for surface materials and primary deck covering) has been re-written to include previous Part 6 and Resolutions A.653(16) & A.687(17). As a consequence Part 6 is intentionally left blank to maintain numbering of the previous Code.

New Steel Policy in 6 Months; to push for faster growth


A new steel policy will be put in place in six months to facilitate rapid growth of the domestic steel sector by ensuring faster capacity addition, the government today said. "A Steel Ministry panel, constituted to frame the new Steel Policy will finalise the draft in two months and the new Policy will be ready in another three-four months," Joint Secretary Steel Dalip Singh told PTI on the sidelines of a Steel Summit here.


The work on the policy assumes significance as it is taking place against the backdrop of huge delays in the multi- billion dollar ventures including those of ArcelorMittal and POSCO because of regulatory and land acquisition hurdles.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted amendments to SOLAS regulation V/18 following incorrect AIS data being transmitted. The amendments require an annual testing of the automatic identification system (AIS).
