The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted a new requirement

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted a new

requirement for fire detection and alarm systems to be fitted in

enclosed spaces containing incinerators.

THE REVISED REGULATION

Through MSC.308(88) the IMO has adopted a new subparagraph .3 to SOLAS 1974 Ch. II-2 regulation 7.4.1. As per new requirement a fixed fire detection and fire alarm system shall be installed in enclosed spaces containing incinerators.


THE REVISED CODE

As a consequence to the above revised regulation, the IMO has adopted through MSC.311(88) amendments to chapter 9 of the International Code for Fire Safety Systems (FSS Code) which contains requirements for these systems.



DATE IN FORCE & APPLICABILITY

The Circular comes into force on July 1, 2012 and is applicable to new ships constructed (keel laid) on or after 2012.

Concerning the Twenty-Second (22nd) Session for the Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control in the Asia-Pacific Region (Tokyo MOU) which has been held from 16 to 18 April 2012 in Viña del Mar, Chile as enclosed herewith for your further reference, we would hereby let it broadly notified to every concerned in advance that the Committee approved the arrangements for the Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Fire Safety System to be carried out from 01 September to 30 November 2012 jointly with the Paris MOU.

Government plans to set up fund for buying overseas coal assets

Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal today said the government is planning to set up a fund for acquiring of coal assets abroad and urged public sector companies to be proactive in making decisions on foreign investments. The fund would be similar to a sovereign wealth fund. The Minister's comments come against the backdrop of severe coal shortage hurting power, steel and other sectors.
