All OOW should be committed to the safety of ship, personnel, properties and the marine environment – also to be acknowledged that this instruction does not preclude or substitute of the international regulations COLREGS.
The OOW is in charge of the bridge and the bridge team for that watch, until being relieved by the preceding officer, also the requirements for watch at anchor should be met (refer to SPM).
The requirements of COLREGS are to be strictly observed. When altering course for another vessel be positive and do not let the other vessel to be in doubt as to your intention.

The vessel heading is indicated by the GYRO, as a safe guard against the gyro & gyro repeaters, frequent checks should be made between the magnetic and gyro compasses and recorded every watch, where possible. Also the gyro compass error should be checked after excessive maneuvering.
The OOW is to maintain the heading and speed as directed by Master, and this does not preclude that he can take the appropriate actions to avoid damage to the ship and personnel, Master to be notified immediately.
The changeover of steering for Autopilot to Manual position is obligatory in bad visibility and high-density traffics, a reasonable period of time to be allocated to the helmsman to be acquainted with rudder features, if possible.
In low visibility immediately comply with international regulations at sea or on anchors, the sound signals to be utilized as applicable in compliance with COLREGS.
The Master is to be called in case of failure being affected the Gyro. Steering Gear, Radar or Echo sounder or vessel whistle.
Before approaching the port, the OOW shall review the local requirements for the calling port through the applicable “Pilot” and is to prepare a note for such requirements.
The Master’s attendance in bridge does not relieve the OOW form carrying out his duties, unless being informed by Master, such situation to be recorded in logbook.
The R/T is to be used only for navigational purposes and for exchange information with port authority and the company.
